Week 3: November 2nd - November 6th

That's a Wrap: Hamilton and Unit Projects!

This week we will be completing our Dramatic Fiction unit! We will watch the final piece of Hamilton and continue discussing the symbolism and the fanbase that has been created, as well as looking at last minute tips and tricks such as budget productions and public speaking. This week will also have two days with a good chunk dedicated to workshopping and conferencing your unit projects. I can't wait to see what you present to us!

November 2nd

“Do you have a design in mind for your blog? Whether you prefer a trendy postcard look or you’re going for a more editorial style blog - there’s a stunning layout for everyone.”

Today we will be finishing up Hamilton and create a discussion around our thoughts about this musical. What did we like? What didn't you like? You will also finish filling out your KWL to hand into me as well. We will look at the controversy around "Eliza's gasp" in her final song, and how different actors playing Eliza have portrayed this scene. After discussions, with what time we have remaining, you will meet with your cast members to discuss if there needs to be any major changes to your material you have. If not, you can continue polishing, or ask me for anything that you may be stuck on.

For homework, I would like you to do the following: Continue working on your unit project. If you have any peers that are stuck on their tasks, how can you help them? Do you need to enhance anything? I would also like for you to watch ONE of the videos I gave you and write THREE takeaways you had from that video in your INB. Be prepared to share next class.

November 3rd

How do I perform my piece when I feel like I can't move on stage?

Today we will be talking about symbolism and why it matters on stage. As you saw in Hamilton and A Doll's House, symbolism can lead to a deeper meaning and provoke thought and/or emotions into the audience. With this lesson, I hope it can provide inspiration to you for any last minute piece you are stuck on. We will also be looking at aspects of public speaking and how we can battle our stage fright. Remember, you aren't the only one nervous! For the time remaining, you will be in workshop mode with your cast mates. If you would like to do your 15 minute conference today, please just let me know. While I do not recommend doing any major changes at this point in the process, I can help on any polishing techniques or look at scripts if you're concerned/questioning parts of it.

For homework, I would like you to do the following: Keep working on polishing your unit project, and prepare for your 15 minute conference with me if you didn't do it today. I would like for you to write on one of the videos posted in your drive and write in your INB about this question: how can you expand your play without Broadway budgets?

November 4th

How can my production be a success even when I don't have a lot of funds?

Today we will be looking at budgets and fanbases! For most of you, you should be familiar with the term 'fanbase'. For shows like Hamilton or even Six, many creators will show their love for their favorite thing by creating something. You will be looking at some animations people have made based around Hamilton and discuss how this could affect the spread of Broadway to mass people. You will also be discussing budget productions, and how you can still make a big impact with a tight line of credit. You don't have to have moving floors or create big backdrops to wow the crowd! For the time remaining, you will get into your unit groups and workshop. If you didn't meet with me yesterday, we will be meeting today. How can I best assist you?

For homework, please do the following: Look at your rubric/deets sheet to make sure you have everything required! If you don't, this is the time to make those adjustments. Remember to breathe, and you got this! Just polish and make them look pretty.

November 5th - 6th

Break a leg! These will be the days you will present your skits! Please be prepared to answer any questions after your performance, and have your skits completed on November 5th! For one group, you will also be writing a critic based on the criteria we have been using for this unit. Please remember these need to be thoughtful and professional, as your peers will be receiving these when they get their grade back. DON'T FORGET TO GIVE ME A COPY OF YOUR SCRIPT (hard copy or turned into Google Classroom).

For homework, I need you to do the following: complete your self and team member evaluations. The last day to turn these in is Saturday, November 7th (turn them in on Google Classroom).
